Biografo: An Integrated Tool for Forensic Writer Identification
نویسندگان
چکیده
The design and performance of a practical integrated tool for writer identification in forensic scenarios is presented. The tool has been designed to help forensic examiners along the complete identification process: from the data acquisition to the recognition itself, as well as with the management of large writer-related databases. The application has been implemented using JavaScript running over a relational database which provides the whole system with some very desirable and unique characteristics such as the possibility to perform all type of queries (e.g., find individuals with some very discriminative character, find a specific document, display all the samples corresponding to one writer, etc.), or a complete control over the set of parameters we want to use in a specific recognition task (e.g., users in the database to be used as control set, set of characters to be used in the identification, size of the ranked list we want as final result, etc.). The identification performance of the tool is evaluated on a real-case forensic database showing some very promising results.

Writer identification by means of loop and lead-in features
Writer identification is an important issue in forensic investigations. In this paper, we propose a novel method for identifying a writer by means of features of loops and lead-in strokes of produced letters. Using a k-nearestneighbor classifier, we were able to yield a correct identification performance of 98% on a database of 41 writers. These results are promising and have great potential fo...
متن کاملMultiple Graphometric Features for Writer Identification as part of Forensic Handwriting Analysis
This paper describes an approach to writer identification based on graphometric features. These features are used by Forensic Document Examiners (FDE) which realize their analysis observing and extracting from the questioned documents a set of important individualizing primitives. Thus, in this work we present a framework for offline writer identification which combine multiples graphometry fea...

With this presentation, we want to introduce the recently started TRIGRAPH project. The aim of this project is to develop techniques that can be used for forensic writer identification, using recent advances in pattern recognition and image processing, new insights in automatically derived handwriting features, user interface development, and innovations in forensic writer identification system...
متن کاملExploiting Character Class Information in Forensic Writer Identification
Questioned document examination is extensively used by forensic specialists for criminal identification. This paper presents a writer recognition system based on contour features operating in identification mode (one-to-many) and working at the level of isolated characters. Individual characters of a writer are manually segmented and labeled by an expert as pertaining to one of 62 alphanumeric ...
متن کاملWriter Identification through Information Retrieval: The Allograph Weight Vector
We show a number of promising results in writer identification, by recasting the traditional information retrieval (IR) problem of finding documents based on the frequency of occurrence of their terms. In IR, the tf-idf is a well-known statistical measure that weighs the importance of certain terms occurring in a database of documents. Here, writers are searched on the basis of the frequency of...
